This leather guard is placed between the tsuba and saya when the sword is in storage to maintain the grip of the Habaki on the koiguchi and prevent damage to the saya should the sword receive a potential Saya splitting blow.

    A simple idea that works very well. Slip one of these between the tsuba and the koiguchi and it provides a neat way of helping prevent the grip of the habaki being lost by transit/storage trauma! I always buy two and glue them back-to-back for some extra thickness since one alone is a little thin.
