Oak Jo - 127cm

Product code: Jo

Prices from £15.83

High Quality Oak Jo.  Total length 127cm.

Available in:

Shiro Kashi - Top class white oak Japanese weapons.  These weapons have a straight, fine & consistent grain throughout their length and have the perfect balance of strength and flexibility.

Aka Kashi - Top class red oak Japanese weapons.  Red oak is slightly more dense than White oak, producing slightly heavier weapons usually.  A great alternative to the Shiro Kashi, with a wider grain which runs through the length of the weapon.

Chaironuri Kashi - Brown stained oak weapons.  Made from the same high class Shiro Kashi, but selected for staining due to less consistent natural finish.

I've ordered one bokken and a 10 Jo both in Shiro Kashi. As in other reviews all of them came with a coating. For practitioners of an art that focuses on weapons practice I cannot recommend these weapons (unfortunately the description doesn't mention the coating). The weapons have had to be stripped. Using a chemical stripper worked well, extensive sanding didn’t allow the wood to take up oil easily. In the 10 Jo there were 2 that had cracks, one of them deep that would be unsafe to use in contact practice. Since they are very cheap, they might still be a good option for people who only occasionally need a jo or don't mind putting in some work for stripping. Nine Circles Reply – Weapons have a polished finish using a polishing agent which some practitioners may wish to remove, though most people do not find they need to adjust the finish for use. We offer a warranty on all pieces, if there are structural splits or premature breakages please get in contact to receive a replacement free of char

  • A nice jo for the price!

This is a nicely made stick, and it's none too expensive either. I think the 2.4 cm shirogashi jo is most commonly found in jodo. Beware that this jo, like many others in my experience, has some sort of light coating, to slide the hands over the Jo smoothly and rapidly prepare to sand it a bit -- a P 240 piece of sandpaper should do the job.

I have bought a white oak, 24 mm jo. As the first jo arrived faulty, I contacted the shop and was really impressed with an excellent customer service - my request was dealt with very quickly and replacement arrived next day! The jo is well balanced and good quality. I really like the way it feels in my hands.

Recently bought an Aka Kashi Jo, fantastic quality, has a great feel and weight to it. Previously bought a 500g sashiko ori gi from NC, received fantastic customer service with regard to choosing the correct size. Delievery is consistently very fast. Will continue to use NC for all my Aikido needs in the future. Thank you

I have previously bought a red oak jo and two medium weight aikidogis from Nine Circles, which have all been of outstanding quality, as has the customer support, which has been of a standard I have rarely experienced with any kind of purchase (they even told me to send back my first dogi after it shrunk more than they originally said it would and sent me a bigger one at no extra cost!). I have just received my fourth item from NC (a red oak bokken) and felt compelled to write a review, which I have never done on this type of comments section, as NC has once again surpassed itself in product quality and delivery speed (my bokken took two days from order to receipt). Thank you for everything NC, you have become my go-to supplier for all things budo and I'm just sorry I haven't given you a great review sooner - although I have posted this on the section for bokken and dogi now too, with your well-deseved and long-overdue 5 stars for those items.

Brought the Chaironuri Kashi and Tanto both very well made, quality is in the feel of the weapons. My wife has brought from this supplier for me and now I am buying from them myself. Excellent delivery time, packaged well. I have never been a fan of buying on-line but Nine Circles gives me that confidence that I'm getting what I ask for Thank you Guys

Being new to, but genuine towards the study of Aikido, I found this supplier via our association website. While uncertain (as all beginners are) I took a leap of faith and ordered all my equipment from here (based upon 'quality not quantity'). From initial advice to aftersales support I could not have made a better investment. At 40 seldom have I seen comparable customer support, and my equipment will certainly serve me for years and years to come. Do not seek a 'bargain' - buy from here.

I have the following from this company; jo, (red and white,) bokken (red) kama and tonfa, and red and white bo staffs. they are all top quality and fantastic to train with. I work with wood and I can vouch for the oak use in the weapons I have from this site!

  • A good weapon.

A good weapon, resilient and well-balanced. The shiro-kashi option is quite good, but the cha-iro one should have its finish removed for maximum usefulness.
