Kurin Shoden Shinken - Hybrid

£750.00 ex VAT
£900.00 inc VAT

Kurin swords represent some of the best value production Shinken on the global market.

Specialising in high quality tools for Iaido and Tameshigiri, Kurin's models bridge the gap between production models and bespoke Nihonto, at a fraction of the price.

These new hybrid models are designed to serve the needs of practitioners who want to train in both Tameshigiri (test cutting) and Iai Kata, using the same sword.

Features of these models include:

Hybrid Blade - blades have a thicker profle and a shallow Hi, to retain structural strength whilst reducing weight.

T-10 Steel - high carbon steel, forged and differentially tempered to produce a variable hardness (Ha - 57HRC, Mune 35HRC).

Hand Polish - traditional stones are used throughout the polishing process to produce an outstanding finish and genuine Hamon.

Cast Kanagu - Cast fittings in classic Japanese designs bring an additional touch of class to complete the package.  Patina and finish may vary from images.

These swords do not include a stand.

These swords are in stock and ready to dispatch pending our final inspection and UK paperwork requirements.

I'm looking for in the hybrid in 2.5 Saku! At the moment my Iaido is 2.6 Saku long!

Best Production Sword I've Handled
I purchased KHSK-2.45-009. I asked many questions prior to purchasing, and Martyn kindly addressed them all. There were no surprises upon unboxing except just how impressive the sword is in person. The blade is beautifully polished and well balanced. Most of the typical issues one must become accustomed to with production swords are either minimal and easy to correct, or not present at all. Comparing it directly to my Kaneie menkyo class sword, I found the polish on the Kurin to be almost as good and the overall fit and finish to be superior. The tsuba could be a little larger and thicker in my opinion, but the casting of the fuchi and kashira are very crisp and clean. The tsuka is well formed and comfortable, and has a very neat and tight ito. The samegawa panels are of high quality, but at this price point I wish they had gone with a full wrap. All in all, it's overall the best production sword I've personally handled, and the customer service from NineCircles is outstanding.

Brand new hybrid
I am a collector of swords since 2007 and have owned three Kurin Swords from Ninecircles since: A stainless steel iaito, the Shinken Iaito and the Tameshigiri Shinken. All of them are of extremely high quality regarding fit & finish of every component. I just have to share my experience reg. the hybrid with everyone who is hesitating. TLDR Summary: Buy it! Light and lively, well balanced, immaculate finish and fittings, as close to a custom masterpiece for 10k+

4.5 stars
I just received my hybrid Kurin blade today and happily I was at home so I got to practice with it(Zen Ken Iai + Jikiden) and examine it at length right away. The balance and beauty of the blade is absolutely phenomenal for the price paid. The habaki fits perfectly to the blade and perfectly into the saya. The fittings, tsuka ito, hineri-maki, are at least of the same quality as a top level Japanese made Iaito. I more then very satisfied! It loses a half star for a slightly lower quality saya as compared to the rest; wood koiguchi (ie not horn), saya seems a bit on the thin side, lacquer of average quality (but not bad looking). This absolutely does not take away from the overall amazing quality for a sword of this price. Service at NC was extremely good (I was annoying and had a lot of questions). Nine Circles Reply - Koiguchi are 100% genuine buffalo horn!

Hybrid shinken
Picked my one up at the BKA summer seminar as a spare. It's a nice little sword for the price and again it's up to Nine Circle's high standards. Thanks guys.
