Makiwara or rolls of straw mats are a traditional material for creating targets for test cutting.
These mats are rolled into various thicknesses, soaked in water for 3 days, and then allowed to dry for a day before cutting. The resulting target is supposed to then accurately represent the consistency or resistance of the human neck or limbs.
Simple to prepare, an average target would consist of 3-4 mats held together by cable ties for a professional finish.
Now supplied with black edgings, these mats measure approximately 180cm x 70cm.
