These top quality Kote feature a tightly stitched 2mm Kote Buton which creates a densely padded target area which does not readily deform on impact.  The result is that whilst the shock of the impact is more apparent, the weight of the strike is dispersed over a greater area and the penetration of the pad, which can lead to bruising, is eliminated.

2mm Buton of this type are typical of the classic top quality styles of Kikaizashi (machine stitched) Bogu, which have become less prevalent in Japan in the past decade due to their typically "lighter" Kendo.  These Kote Buton take a little longer to break in and mould to your ideal shape, but when they do they offer incredible protection and longevity which is why they have been a firm customer favourite over the past 20 years.
