Traditionally, Hakama width does not vary with changes in size, only the length of the Hakama changes to match the pelvis to ankle drop.  Classic cut Hakama are a fairly slim fit in general terms regardless of size selection.  Formal Hakama tend to be cut from a wider bolt of fabric, giving a wider shape and silhouette.

When correctly tied, a degree of opening of the Hakama pleats is both normal and desirable, the exterior pleats are not designed to hang perfectly vertically.  However, in some cases, for wider body shapes, that pleat opening can be pushed to an extreme and the Hakama can feel tight and restrictive when tied.

Enter the wide Maehaba Hakama.  The Maehaba or front section of this Hakama is created from a wider bolt of fabric, increasing both the overall coverage of the front section, and the depth of the pleats.

This special model follows the lines of the higher class formal cut and in doing so also accommodates wider hips and waist shapes, reducing excessive flaring and constraint, and eliminating excessive gaping of the side vents.

Extra Long Himo - This Hakama features longer Himo than average to enable comfortable tying for wider body shapes.  Total front Himo length is 385cm, total back Himo length is 205cm.
